Kano Peace Committee (KPC), an affiliate of the National Peace Committee, Co-chaired by Emeritus Prof. Ibrahim H. Umar and Most. Rev. Bishop Dr. John Namaza Niyiring has expressed concern over the recent political happenings in the state.
A statement issued to newsmen by the Committee’s Head of Secretariat, Amb. Ibrahim A. Waiya said the committee which was established to facilitate peace in Kano State especially before, during, and after elections had observed with dismay the unfolding political happenings which glaringly threaten the peace and security of the State.
According to the statement, KPC facilitated and organized the 1st and 2nd signing of the Peace Accord in Kano State, in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, before the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the State.
The Signing of the Peace Accord was chaired by His Excellency, the Chairman, National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdussalami Abubakar, GCFR, it added.

As the 2023 General elections are fast approaching, the Kano Peace Committee (KPC) has been engaging in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, to promote peaceful conduct of all ELECTIONEERING campaign activities in The STATE.
The effort is to complement the mandate of the security agencies, and ensure that Kano remains peaceful before, during, and after the 2023 elections.
We have however observed with dismay the unfolding political happenings which glaringly threaten the peace and security of our dear State.
The utterances of the party leadership of both APC and NNPP are quite dangerous to the peace and public safety in Kano, unfortunate, uncalled for, and in total contravention to the efforts so far invested in the campaigns for the promotion of peace and security in the State and electoral laws 2022, as amended.
As KPC and National Peace Committee are disturbed by the emerging threat to the peace and security in the State, we wish to unequivocally condemn the development as unacceptable and unpardonable and call in strong terms the leadership of the two parties (NNPP and APC), to respect the rules of the game in the interest of public safety, security and wellbeing of Kano citizens.
The KPC and National Peace Committees are planning to organize high-level engagements with political actors in the State, including the signing of the Peace Accord which shall be presided over by the Chairman, the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar GCFR.
The planned interventions by both committees are to pave way for deliberate actions to ensure peace and security in the State.
While we call on His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the Executive Governor of Kano State, to prevail on the situation by ensuring that, all political parties are accorded the enabling environment to conduct their party activities within the confines of the Nigerian extant laws, without any hindrance or intimidation by any other party.
We equally wish to call on the Commissioner of Police, CP Abubakar Lawal to investigate the alleged attacks on some households in Gwale Local Government areas in the State to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to book.
All political parties in the State should be treated equally and with fairness. The safety of Kano Citizens is above all considerations and interests.
