Federal, State and Local Governments have been urged to increase their budget allocation to health sector and ensure timely releases of the funds to mitigate the menace of high rate of child and maternal death in the nation.
The called was made by traditional leaders in Jigawa state during the community and stakeholders parley held at Manpower Development Centre Dutse, Jigawa state, which was part of the activities organized by Save the Children to celebrate World Pneumonia day.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders from the area, the district head of Kiyawa Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kiyawa said, inadequate funding to the health sector made it very difficult for many families to get accessible and affordable basic healthcare services.
He noted that, lack of this access to basic healthcare services is the major causes of high rate of maternal and child death in Nigeria.
According to him, many families prefer to go to traditional medicine vendors for treatment despite its unreliability and hazard for no reason rather than lack of access to affordable clinical services.
The district head maintained that, provision of adequate funding and timely releases to the health sector would significantly help in tackling the high rate of unnecessary death of pregnant women and children as well as other segments of the society.
Malam Adamu also commended Save the Children for their kind intervention on Pneumonia and covid-19 which promoted public awareness on Infection Protection and Control diseases in Kiyawa area and other part of the state.
However, women from Katanga Community of Jigawa state expressed their appreciation to Save the Children for conducting series of engagement and enlightenment program which enable them to understand and identified some symptoms of pneumonia infection and also how-to sake an appropriate medical attention.
