Didier Deschamps disclosed whether Paul Pogba has a future with the French national team and acknowledged that he had spoken with the midfield player.
Pogba, who was instrumental in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, has an unclear future after receiving a four-year suspension for failing a drug test. The former Manchester United player’s future in professional football is seriously dubious given the latest verdict, which will keep him out of action until he is 35.
Deschamps sympathized with Pogba’s situation and hoped that the player would be able to return to the field as soon as possible.
“I’ve chatted with him. It’s difficult psychologically,” Deschamps told reporters.
“He filed an appeal after the harsh ruling, therefore there will be a new judgment. He is going to use every ounce of strength to protect himself. I dislike making firm plans for the future. Above all, I wish for him to be able to enjoy himself while playing and eventually rejoin the French national team.
Since September 2023, the midfield player has not participated in Juventus’ training sessions due to a precautionary suspension imposed by the Italian anti-doping authority. Pogba’s legal team, on the other hand, is steadfast in their position, adamantly disputing any intentional misconduct and pledging to challenge the suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Former French national team player Rio Mavuba has said that Pogba may have been “tricked” into taking the banned substance.
While Pogba’s playing future remains uncertain, other options have presented themselves, such as an unexpected offer from Broke Boys, a squad in the Russian Media Football League. It remains to be seen if Pogba takes up the offer and continues to play competitive football even after being suspended.
