The White House announced on Thursday that the United States had informed Iran that it was not a party to an airstrike targeting a senior Iranian military commander in Damascus.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, “We signaled to Iran that the U.S. had no role in the incident that happened in Damascus, and we have warned Iran not to use this attack as a pretext to escalate further in the area or to attack U.S. assets or personnel.”

An Iranian military commander was killed when suspected Israeli airplanes hit Iran’s embassy in Damascus on Monday, signaling a significant uptick in Israel’s conflict with its neighbors in the region.
The United States and its envoys have been frantically trying to defuse tensions as the country has been on high alert for potential reprisal strikes from Iran.
Naturally, Jean-Pierre stated, “we don’t want this conflict to expand.”
