The 10 people on board were killed after two Malaysian military helicopters collided and crashed on Tuesday during a training exercise, according to the navy.

The military stated in a terse statement that the accident happened when the helicopters were practicing at a naval facility in northern Perak state for the navy’s 90th anniversary celebration next month.

The statement stated, “All victims were verified dead on scene,” and added that the hospital has received the corpses so they may be identified.

The AW139 maritime operation helicopter had seven crew members on board, according to the navy. The manufacturer of that aircraft, AgustaWestland, is a division of Leonardo, an Italian defense contractor. The lightweight Fennec helicopter, made by the European multinational defense company Airbus, carried three additional crew members.

According to local media, the Fennec struck a swimming pool close by, while the AW139 crashed in a naval station sports complex.

The Navy declared that it would look into the incident to find out what went wrong.
