Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated that if Donald Trump is reelected as US president, he will not support Ukraine’s efforts to repel Russia’s invasion. “He won’t contribute a dime to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. After meeting with Mr. Trump in Florida, the conservative premier declared, “That is why the war will finish.” If elected, the former US president promised to terminate the war “within 24 hours,” but he gave no specifics. Openly supporting his longtime ally in the 2024 presidential election is Mr. Orban. “It is evident that Ukraine is unable to stand on its own,” Mr. Orban stated late on Sunday night to Hungary’s M1 TV channel. “The fight is over if the Americans and the Europeans don’t contribute money and weaponry. Furthermore, if the Americans don’t give money, the Europeans alone are unable to finance this war. And then the war is over.”

Adding that Mr. Trump has “quite specific ideas” for ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he did not provide further details.

Regarding Mr. Orban’s TV interview, Mr. Trump has not made any public remarks.

During their Friday gathering at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, the outgoing US president complimented his visitor. “Nobody is more capable, astute, or a more effective leader than Viktor Orban. He’s amazing, “He stated.

Mr. Orban did not meet with Joe Biden, the incumbent US president, who is anticipated to be Mr. Trump’s primary opponent in the November presidential election.

It is quite uncommon for a foreign leader in visitation to arrange meetings with previous counterparts without involving the present government.

When Russian President Vladimir Putin began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the prime minister of Hungary has come under heavy fire from other EU leaders for continuing to keep tight ties with him.

Mr. Orban, in contrast to many other Western countries, is unwilling to arm its neighbor, Ukraine, saying repeatedly that Kyiv cannot defeat a nuclear-armed Russia.

EU officials are becoming more and more worried that under a second Trump administration, the US would significantly cut its financial and military support for NATO and Ukraine.

Republican resistance has caused a $95 billion (£75 billion) foreign aid measure, which includes $60 billion in military funding to Ukraine, to stand still in the US Congress.

The Republicans, who are publicly supported by Mr. Trump, declare that they will not permit the plan to pass the House of Representatives’ final stage unless they agree to approve additional financing for US border security.

Recent advances by Russian soldiers in eastern Ukraine coincide with severe ammo shortages in Kyiv.

To continue battling Russia, a far larger military force with an abundance of artillery ammunition, Ukraine is heavily dependent on weaponry from the US, the primary supplier, and other Western allies.
