The opposition candidate, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Senegalese Constitutional Council.

The provisional results, which were revealed on Wednesday and were based on vote tallies from all polling places, were approved by the highest court.

In the postponed presidential election held last Sunday, Faye received over 54% of the vote, while Amadou Ba, the nominee of the ruling coalition, received over 35%.

According to the presidency, Faye, 44, is scheduled to take the oath of office as Senegal’s youngest president on Tuesday in the city of Diamniadio.
