Sultan of Sokoto Celebrates 15-year Anniversary Amidst Fanfare

As part of activities marking the 15th year anniversary of the Sultan of Sokoto Dr Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultanate council has organized a historic public lecture aimed at enhancing religious understanding, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence in the developing world.

In his welcome address before the commencement of the lecture, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera described the 15th year leadership of the Muslim Ummah by the Sultan of Sokoto as historic and fruitful in the maintenance of peace and religious tolerance.

He appealed to religious and traditional leaders in Nigeria to emulate the virtues of the leader of the Sokoto caliphate for them to achieve peace and enhance peaceful coexistence amongst diverse religious groups in their domain.

The Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Gabai in his remarks explore the important roles the Sultan played in keeping Nigeria together despite security challenges that rocked the country for over a decade.

“I know how the Sultan conduct his leadership style, he is all inclusive and share responsibility when it comes to issues of inter religious meetings and activities” says the Shehu of Borno.

He said Sultan Sa’ad was instrumental to the current peace achieved in the fight against religious extremists the (Boko Haram) in the north east of the country.

The guest lecture, Sheikh Mufti Isma’el Menk from the republic of Zimbabwe in the lead paper he presented, strengthen the importance of religious tolerance amongst diverse religious groups for  peace and development.

He highlighted the positive and negative sides of social media plat forms which he said no would deny wither it’s totally good or totally bad, saying that it depends on how a person uses it for.

Menk, urges users of Tick talk plat form and other social media play forms to use them for the promotion of their religious and cultural believes rather than engaging in moral and social vices capable of derailing their minds from the path of righteousness.

He charged Muslims ummah to be merciful to one another, even to the people of other religion and cultural beliefs, adding that there is no justification for people of the same religion to engaged in the killing of one another because of these beliefs or religious ideology.

He said God is perfect and just as such he would not punish human beings 

for offence not committed, saying that God has spelt everything clearly in the holy Qur’an so as to serve as a guide to human.

He said those who took faith as a mockery while on earth would be noted with punishment based on their sins, as they would also be rewarded based on their deeds and not on the deeds of others.

“We should be loyal citizen and obedient to the constructed authorities if we want to achieve an everlasting peace in our lives” says Menk.

Speaker after speaker during the anniversary lecture commended the role model of the Sultan especially un effort on the inter religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among diverse ethnic and religious groups.
