Sokoto state is to construct new water schemes and water hydrants for public and commercial Water usage in the state metropolis.
The state commissioner for Water resources Honourable Umar Muhammad Bature disclosed this at a meeting stakeholder held at State Water Board Secretariat.
He said the new projects would be constructed in some selected strategic places suitable for such activities.
The Commissioner told the stakeholder at the meeting that sensitization and public enlightenment for members of commercial water users Association would be intensified with a view to keep the abreast with the Government policy.
Honourable Bature who was represented by the Permanent secretary of the ministry Alhaji Isma’ila Gatawa said, the meeting and sensitization would be carried out to support and enhanced the state internally generated revenue as well as improve the lots of their businesses.
The new policy according to the commissioner is to ensure prompt payment of water rates by members of the Association as at when due.
Hon. Bature noted that the initiative was part of efforts taken to revive the existing laws of the state water rates to accrue more revenue for the state.
The commissioner how ever urged leaders of the Association to mobilize their members on the new move for the interest of the state.
Speaking, the General Manager of the State Water Board Alhaji Isma’ila Sanda Umar sheds light on the state existing laws on commercial water users and payment of royalty fees by owners of private and commercial boreholes and urged them to comply.
In their separate remarks, leaders of water users for commercial purposes Alhaji Nasiru Umar Garka, Table Water Producers Association Alhaji Kabiru Maibulo and Block Makers Associations all assured their support and cooperation to the new initiative.
They further called on the state Government to ensure adequate supply of water for optimum result.
In another development a similar meeting was held with the leaders of the aforementioned Associations where agreement was reached to give ample time for them to intimate their members on the new plan before making conclusion.
