Sokoto: AIG Daura Seeks Ties with Military in Fight Against Insecurity

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto AIG Abubakar Lawal Daura has in the company of the Sokoto state Commissioner of Police and his Zonal Management team paid a courtesy visit to General Officer Commanding 8 Division Headquarters Nigerian Army Sokoto, Major General Godwin Mutkut to seek collaboration and enhanced cordial working relationship between the two forces.

According to the Police Zonal Public Relations Officer, ASP Yaqub Uthman Muhammad, the visit would further strengthen the partnership, and synergy that exists between the Police and the Nigerian Army.

In his address, the AIG Zone 10 Headquarters, Daura, said, the purpose of his visit to the GOC was to formally introduce himself as the AIG posted to the Zonal command and to seek enhanced cordial working relationship and improved synergy between the two bodies.

The AIG who was a fellow of the defense college, noted that the kinetic approach alone cannot solve the security challenges bedeviling the Zonal command, as such there is a need for the adoption of a wholistic approach to mitigate the problems of kidnapping, arm banditry, cattle rustling and other sundry crimes within the Zonal areas.

“It’s part of the IGP’s agenda of imploring Community Policing, partnership, and intelligence-led policing to solve the problems.”

“There is a need for sensitization among, junior ranking officers of the two forces with a view to mitigate unforeseen clashes that sometimes occur between the two comrades in arms.

He however commensurate with the GOC over the death of officers and soldiers whose lives were terminated in the recent bandits attack in Niger state.

In his response, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Headquarters in Sokoto and Commander of Joint Taskforce Operation Hadarin Daji Northwest, Major General Godwin Micheal Mutkut welcomed the new AIG of Police, Lawalnl Abubkar Daura who according to him passed through military pieces of training.

The GOC assured the visíting Assistant Inspector General of Police that whatever assistance the Zonal command needed from the military would surely be considered and done as appropriate.

The General reiterated that the two organizations have been working hand in hand with strong synergy, especially in the joint task force operation Hadarin-daji.
