A United Nation Project, “Sustainable Development Goals” has donated 11 tricycle ambulances for transporting patients, particularly pregnant women and children from rural areas to nearest health facilities in Jigawa state.
Presenting the tricycles to the health facilities, the Permanent Secretary Budget and Economic Planning of the state, Engr. Alhassan Marke said, Jigawa state is fully committed for achieving the SDG target.
He explained that, Jigawa state has been working in collaboration with other partners and federal primary healthcare agencies to ensure the provision of accessible basic healthcare services to all people of the state in respect of their geographical location or economic status.
“The provision of this tricycle ambulances will assist many rural women and children to access healthcare services especially during emergency.
“The state government will make adequate provision for the maintenance of the tricycles and also ensure no one abuse the purpose of giving it to the facilities.”
In his commitment, the Permanent Secretary, state ministry of health Dr. Salisu Muaz said, the ministry will study the efficiency of the tricycle ambulance operations to see the possibility of giving at least one to all 287 primary healthcare facilities in the political wards across the state.
He however charges the community members to take ownership of the tricycle ambulances and report any attempt to misuse it.
