Regular Hand Wash Reduces Pneumonia Infection – Save The Children

Observing regular hands wash among parents and children reduced the risk of Pneumonia and Covid -19 infection.

The head of Community Behavior Change, Save the Children, Jigawa State, Mr Ibrahim Haruna stated this while speaking to some community members during a field visit to Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

He said, they are encouraging peoples to always wash their hands with available and affordable hand washing materials in their community to tackle the corona virus pandemic and also reduce the risk of Pneumonia infection among the children below 5 years old.

While fielding questions from newsmen during the visit, the in charge of Primary Healthcare facilities Mr Musa Nababa Kiyawa said, Save the Children intervention help in the improvement of immunization coverage in the local government from 67% to 82%.

He said, Save the Children gave series of trainings to health workers in the local government which they subsequently cascaded to the hundred of community volunteers.

“We engaged hundred of community volunteers in the campaign against Covid-19, Pneumonia Infection and also how to promote immunization, Ante-natal, Facility delivery, exclusive breast feeding and improved child complementary food”.

Save the Children had also gave us Personal Protective Equipment against Covid-19 worth over N7 mill, and also provided us with over 1,500 Tippy – Taps which were distributed to the public palaces “

One of the community volunteers Mrs Shafa”atu Yawale, thanked Save the Children for their kind intervention which improved their awareness about Covid-19 and Pneumonia Infection, Prevention and Control.
