Jigawa state government has declared its plan to integrate and institutionalized Oxygen Gas Cylinders in the medical supply chain for the management of pneumonia and other related respiratory ailments in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of State Ministry of Health, Dr. Salisu Mua’az revealed this during a press conference organized by the ministry in collaboration with Save the Children International (SCI) for the celebration of world pneumonia day.
Dr. Muazu explained that SCI Intervention in Pneumonia in the state has demonstrated the need to have an effective chain of oxygen supply in all health facilities in the state.
“Oxygen is so essential in saving life and treatment of other related ailments, so in appreciation to that effect, we have concluded in a medium-term plan to Institutionalized supply of oxygen in our chain of medical supply.
“While under our long-term plan we are considering establishing. Oxygen Gass Plant, for the production of the commodity for our hospitals .and commercial supply.”
He, however, commended Save The Children for their intervention .in pneumonia which included the supply of medical equipment, manpower training, and community engagement which according to him contributed to the increase of immunization coverage and reduction of child mortality in the state.
Also in commemoration of the day, SCI has engaged Schools Children in the campaign against pneumonia in the state.
