Kano state government is set to invite experts on Cancer treatment with a view to training Nurses and Doctors in the state for the ultra modern Cancer Centre, that is set to be completed in the next few months.

Ganduje’s spokeman, Abba Anwar in a statement said he made the disclosure when members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Kano State Council, paid him a courtesy visit, amid State Executive Council meeting, at Africa House, Wednesday.

“Very soon we will engage some experts in the area of cancer treatment, to come and train our Nurses and Doctors on cancer treatment for our Ultra-Modern Cancer Centre,” he said.

Adding that his administration gives great concern and emphasis on the health of the state, explaining that, “There is no doubt that we have improved health sector. And I am happy that this important association has recognised that.”

“Our Cancer Centre is of international standard. I was in Melbourne, Australia, when I visited Cancer Centre and promised to put on ground, something like that, in Kano. And this is what we are putting in place now,” he stated.

He also said, because of the over-streched effect of the state population on health care facilities in the state, his administration decided to establish more hospitals in the headquarters of the four Emirates, with 400-bedded capacity.

“Being the most populous state in the country, it means more health care facilities are needed. Sometimes we receive patients from far away Niger Republic, apart from those coming from other states of the federation,” he said.

He commended them for their efforts in doing their work diligently. Emphasising that, “Your importance cannot be over-emphasized.”

The Chairman of the association, Comrade Ibrahim Maikarfi commended the governor for the feats achieved in the health sector in the state.

“Your Excellency it may interest you to know that, since your coming to office as a governor, our members, Nurses were not involved in any strike action. This also shows your unrelenting effort and commitment in the sector,” he commended.
