The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to call off the indefinite strike scheduled to take place on Tuesday in response to the removal of fuel subsidies.

However, following the outcome of an emergency meeting called on Monday between the federal government and labour leaders, the NLC and TUC agreed to suspend the strike to allow the implementation of the NLC demands.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the NLC has directed that all its affiliate members should direct their members to resume their various duties.

Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, President of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), has also ordered that all of the nation’s seaports, jetties, oil and gas platforms, and terminals to resume operations tomorrow, as directed by the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Earlier, the Nigeria Labour Congress had directed its affiliate member unions across the country to mobilise and shut down the country in response to the government’s refusal to adhere to the NLC and TUC’s seven-point demand to alleviate the suffering of the country’s teeming Nigerian workers and impoverished masses.
