NDLEA Confiscates 2m kg of Drugs Worth N80b in 100 days – Marwa

The Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtrd), has disclosed that in his first 100 days in office the agency has confiscated 2million kilograms of assorted drugs valued at N80b.

Marwa spoke yesterday when the Acting Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman paid him courtesy visit at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

Marwa indicated that they have arrested over 2100 criminals associated with the illicit trade and have secured over 350 convictions so far adding that they are still counting.

He said in Nigeria not less that 15 million persons use drugs adding that the number is very alarming.

The NDLEA boss said they are working on the mandate given to them by the President to mop up all illicit substances and make Nigeria a drug free save haven

“The NDLEA had remain upstart by upping the ante in our activities.”

He said the agency needs the collaboration of Police intelligent tracking

The Inspector General of Police in his earlier comments said the agency is an integral part of policing in the country. “It is an agency that is part and parcel of making sure that law and order is abided by and ensure that a conducive environment is created for Nigerians to go about their lawful businesses.”

He congratulated Marwa for his achievement and attaining 100 days in office as well as his stature as a retired general in the Nigerian Army.

“When I was Police Public relations officer in Borno you were military Governor of that State. So, the experience is quite enormous.

“Experience is the best teacher and you are seriously involved in crime prevention and control.

“As somebody who has been in the business of crime prevention and control for a very long time from Borno to Lagos and everywhere, we know your record in sanitizing where senseless things involved.

“I am here to express and pay you my unalloyed cooperation and synergy and collaboration with agency with the agency in order to police this country, behind every crime there is always the issue of drugs and if we synergize, cooperate and collaborate, the synergy would be very beneficial to law enforcement and to the country at large.
