Academic and other administrative activities were paralyzed at Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa state as Non-Academic Staff of Universities (NASUU) began a nationwide seven-day warning strike over nonpayment of their four months’ salaries.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Sabo Abdul Karim and senior administrative staff, lecturers, and students were all left stranded for hours as all the University entrance gates were closed due to the strike.

Though some students and lecturers managed to enter the schools through the pedestal gate, the academic activities were not affected. In contrast, some lecturers were forced to suspend their lectures due to unfavorable conditions at the University.

While fielding questions from newsmen the Chairman Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities FUD branch, Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi said, they joined the nationwide warning strike called by their national headquarters in response to the failure of the federal government to listen to their demands.

“A series of letters and engagements were made with federal government delegation with regards to the payment of our outstanding August to December 2023 salary, but up to now, there was no positive response.

“We did not embark on the warning strike to disturb anybody or cause problems to the country’s educational sector, the warning strike aims at speaking to the federal government in the language they understood and make them understand our grievance.

“After the seven days warning strike if no any positive response, the NASUU federal University Dutse will fully comply with further directives and decisions to be taken by our national headquarters,” Abdullahi declared.
