MMSH Awards 22 Dedicated Staff

The management of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital (MMSH) has awarded twenty-two dedicated staff carefully selected across departments and units of the facility.

The colourful event took place Wednesday in the hospital’s premises was organised to appreciate the selfless commitments and dedications of the staff of the facility in ensuring quality service delivery.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, extolled the Chief Medical Director (MD) and other management staff of the facility for organizing the event which was in line with the Ganduje led administration’s resolve to organize a state wide presentation of awards to the deserving facilities and best performing health workers.

Represented by the Director General Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Nasiru Alhassan Kabo, Dr. Tsanyawa noted that the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospitals is the largest public hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.

He added that the hospital is the first of its kind that is taking care of the teeming population than any other hospital in the country.  

The Commissioner pointed out that all the modest achievements the present leadership of the hospital recorded were made possible by the excellent leadership style of His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR (Khadimul Islam).

“We know how relentless His Excellency is. We know how steadfast he is, most especially in healthcare provision to the teeming Kano indigenes, people of neighbouring states and even those from neighbouring countries as well.

This is because, this hospital is not serving only people of the state, but people from neighbouring states and countries like Togo, Niger, Benin and Cameroun Republics also access healthcare services in this facility”, said Dr. Tsanyawa.

He noted with satisfaction of the utmost attention Governor Ganduje accords health sector of the state by investing a lot of resources, saying that the administration of Gov Ganduje has taken lead in the country in the 2021 proposed budget by earmarking 17% to health services, a development that surpassed the 15% Abuja Declaration on health.

On the awardees, Dr. Tsanyawa enjoined them to know that they have been chosen from many other staff, hence there is need for them to ginger up and do more on their performance upon which they have been presented with the award.

He charged them to reciprocate the gesture by redoubling their efforts in their responsibilities in the historic hospital, urging other health facilities in the state to emulate the initiative of MMSH to get the ever-desired results of service delivery.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Hussaini Muhammad, stated that the event was organised to appreciate and acknowledge those are ready to execute whatever work they are assigned to do so as to improve the quality service delivery in the hospital.

Dr. Hussaini traced the history of the hospital to 1926 when it was established with only 15 beds; presently, it has about 10,000 beds.

Over 7,000 patients are being attended to on daily basis as outpatients’, over 450 antenatal services daily and over 1000 deliveries monthly with about 250 caesarean session on monthly basis as well, he added

He numerated some of the achievements recorded under him since his appointment CMD of the facility including the repair of accident and emergency free call following its renovation and upgrade, provision of equipment at various departments and units of the facility

Others are renovating male B and B wards, cleaning and cleansing the hospital, purchasing of brand-new ambulances and creating a new amenity section, Dental laboratory in Dental unit, construction of new maternity theatre, incorporating the female A, B and C wards toilets into the wards, and host of other achievements.

Dr. Hussain appreciated the enormous supports of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to health sector of the state, noting that the staff of the facility must be commended for coming together to work tirelessly to ensure service delivery is achieved at all times.

The event was graced by directors of the HMB and a large number of dignitaries including Dr. Mansur Nagoda, the chairman Kano state Hospitals Friends Committee, Alhaji Garba Baban Ladi (Barden Madakin Kano).
