Lionel Messi was given a fresh new haircut as the Inter Miami star prepares to jet off to Paris for the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday.

Messi’s barber in Miami posted an image of the Argentina hero sporting his new look a day before the ceremony takes place.

Messi heads back to Paris hoping to collect a record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or trophy. He is one of the favourites to win the prize after guiding Argentina to World Cup success in Qatar last year.

However, he faces a challenge from Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland, who helped fire his team to the Eurpoean and English treble, while France and Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe is also in the frame.

The voting between the three stars was described by one of the event organisers as “very, very tight”.

“Dropping the biggest Leo Messi off ready for tomorrow. Special day where in the name of God he will win his golden ball number 8,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Leo for always trusting in me and blessing me with making possibly the biggest cut of my career. WILL BE SEEN BY THE WORLD.”

After the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Messi will next be in action in November as Argentina face Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.
