The opposing administrations in Libya have promised to unite and create a government.

On Sunday, March 10, in Cairo, Egypt, the head of the country’s Presidential Council, the speaker of the House of Representatives located in the east, and the head of the High Council of State located in the west convened.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League called the conference.

The participants reached the following consensus: first, they emphasized Libya’s sovereignty, independence, and unity; second, they rejected any foreign involvement that could have a negative impact on the country’s political process “said Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

“Second, a technical committee will be established within a certain timeframe to examine the appropriate revisions that broaden the foundation of consensus in the political agreement and what comes after it.  work that was executed by the 6+6 committee, and to finalise the unsettled matters regarding the points of disagreement in accordance to the legislations in force.”

The combined committee of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State responsible for drafting election laws is known as the 6+6 committee.

Actors from Libya who were present emphasized the need for a single, unified administration whose job it would be to oversee elections and supply Libyans with essential services.

The inability to hold elections on December 24, 2021, and the prime minister’s refusal to resign from his position leading a transitional administration in Tripoli, the nation’s capital, contributed to the country’s present political crisis.

The parliament of the nation’s eastern region chose a rival prime minister to lead the nation’s eastern region in retaliation.
