King Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and will postpone his public duties while undergoing treatment. The 75-year-old, who became king in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth, is “wholly positive” about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

Charles spent three nights in the hospital last month for a corrective procedure for a benign, enlarged prostate. During this period, Charles will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

Charles and his daughter-in-law, Kate, left the same hospital where they had both undergone planned treatments. Kate, the Princess of Wales and wife of Prince William, spent two weeks in the hospital following abdominal surgery for an unspecified but non-cancerous condition.

The royals usually closely guard details of their health, but Charles has been open about his recent treatment to prevent speculation and assist public understanding for those affected by cancer.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sent his best wishes to the King on X, stating that he has no doubt he will be back to full strength in no time. The rest of the royal family has been informed about the king’s cancer diagnosis, with Prince Harry, his younger son, traveling to the UK to see him in the coming days.
