Asbel Rutto, a Kenyan long-distance runner, accomplished an incredible feat on Sunday by winning the Rome marathon and breaking his own record by three minutes.
Rutto won in a staggering time of two hours, six minutes, and twenty-three seconds, displaying remarkable physical prowess and willpower.
With a remarkable 1-2-3 finish for Kenya, he easily outperformed the competition after trailing second-place Brian Kispang by more than a minute and thirty seconds. Sila Kiptoo also finished strongly behind him.
In the women’s race, Kenya also had a strong presence as Ivyne Lagat defeated Lydia Simiyu, a fellow Kenyan. After 2 hours, 24 minutes, and 35.36 seconds, Lagat crossed the finish line first, keeping a lead over 30 seconds over Simiyu.
The Ethiopian Emebet Niguse won the third position, completing the top three spots in the competition.
