Kebbi Kicks-off Free Distribution of 40,000 Economic Tree Seedlings to Farmers

In the bid to fight desertification and enhanced economic fortunes of farmers, Governor Atiku Bagudu has flagged-off the distribution of 40,000 seedlings of economic tress in Kebbi state.

Flagging-off the exercise at the Ministry of Environment, the governor who was represented by the SSG, Bale Umar Yauri said the seedlings when utilized properly would enhance green environment for habitation and boost farmers economic fortunes.

 The governor noted that his administration would continue to sustain empowerment of farmers in all fields that would boost their capital capacity.

He therefore urged beneficiary to utilize the economy tree seedlings properly.

In his remark, the Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals Development, Alhaji Hayatu Bawa Jega, thanked the governor for empowering the Ministry to acquire and distribute the economic trees seedlings free to farmers.

 He also indicated that tree planting and subsequent afforestation were effective antidote to desertification.

He then announced that the forty thousand assorted seedlings which includes Mango, Papaya, banana, Date palm, Moringa, Guava, Orange and Cashew among others would be distributed to local government areas on ‘ first-come first-served’ basis and members of the public who put up their request.
