Kebbi Flags Off Free Prostate Cancer Awareness and Screening Exercise

According to the Global Cancer Report of 2020, Prostate cancer is the commonest cancer amongst Nigerian men, with 15, 306 cases recorded last year.

It is now ranked the second most common cancer in the country, after breast cancer.

Conscious of this worrisome statistics, the Kebbi State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Johnson and Johnson, offered FREE Prostate Cancer Screening for 500 men, aged 40 and above, across the State.

A statement signed by Special Adviser, Media to Kebbi State Governor, Yahaya Sarki said the exercise was flagged off by the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Hon Mohammad Jafar.

He commended Johnson & Johnson for supporting the state’s Health Sector.

The exercise took place in the four (4) Emirates of the state at the following centres:

1. Kebbi Medical Center, Kalgo (Gwandu Emirate).

2. General Hospital Zuru (Zuru Emirate).

3. General Hospital Yauri (Yauri Emirate).

4. General Hospital Argungu (Argungu Emirate).

The screening Outreach organized by Medicaid Cancer Foundation, commenced on 25th January, 2021, for men aged 40 and above and all positive cases picked will be treated free by the state government.
