Cholera out Break has killed over 140 persons across 20 out of the 21 local government area of Kebbi state.
Speaking to the Stallion Times in Birnin Kebbi, the Chief Medical Director, Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Dr. Aminu Haliru- Bunza, said that the outbreak killed 146 people and 2,208-persons are hospitalized across 20 local government areas of the state.
According to him, these are numbers of affected people that have been tested in those areas, adding that “these figures cut across all sexes and ages of persons affected.”
He said the outbreak was caused by contamination as a result of mirco- bacteria.
Haliru- Bunza stressed the need for the public to increase their personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, cleanness and avoid open defecation.
He said: “the state government has already provided equipment and drugs to all the local government areas and trained health personnel to ensure the issue is being tackled even in the areas where the outbreak has not been recorded.”
He however said surveillance officers and camps to isolate people have already been set up as the disease is highly infectious.
Bunza therefore called on health personnel to avoid rendering home services to suspected cases, urging the public to report suspected cases to the nearest health facility across the state.
