Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) is working to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and other security agencies in the state.

The Acting Managing Director of the Council, Bappa Dan’agundi made the disclosure during an interactive session with journalists, Meet the Media, at the Nigeria Union of Journalist Secretariate on Sunday.

“We have a new collaboration with the security agencies, Consumer protection task force and NAFDAC as the lead agency.

“We have already stated operating and we are soon going to sign a memorandum of understating which will yield a very big result in Kano,” he said.

Fielding questions from newsmen as to what the MoU contains, Dan’agundi said part of the agreement is that NAFDAC will be the lead agency in all operations aimed at getting rid of fake and expired products off the markets and shops in Kano.

Another issue contained in the MoU is the sharing of information between security agencies on all operations carried out.

“Items or goods arrested or confiscated will be at the custody of NAFDAC, we all agreed to that,” but whereby we get a court order from a consumer to go for an operation, we will go along with the complainant.

“But whatever we get or confiscate will be in the custody of the consumer, because we have to go back to that court and tell it what transpired,” he added.

He further explained that when an offender runs away, his goods will be kept at the CPC warehouse until such a time when the council will seek a court order to destroy the items.

The Kano Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) is an agency of the Government with the mandate of addressing consumers’ complaints, providing consumer education, and encouraging trade, industry, and professional associations to develop and enforce quality standards designed to safeguard the interests of consumers.
