In line with the aspirations of the Kano State Government led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, three major programs have been planned to join the world in commemorating the 2022 Non-governmental Organization (NGO) Day.

The Special Adviser (SA), NGOs, Hajia Yardada Maikano Bichi revealed during a press conference, Monday, at Gidan Murtala.

The Office of the SA NGOs works closely with various Civil Society Organization (CSO) Coalitions, NGOs, relevant MDAs, development partners, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainable development of the state and citizens.

The theme for 2022 World NGO Day is yet to be revealed.

Hajia Yardada said the objectives of commemorating World NGO Day in the state include but are not limited to includes celebrating the successes of the more than 10 million organizations worldwide and allowing many small grass-root organizations to gain the recognition they deserve, applaud the fundamental contributions made by CSOs, honour non-profit organizations and volunteers who give their time and resources to help make a difference.

And to provide knowledge about NGOs and their roles, inspire people through their various works, projects, programs, and activities, and garner more support (technical, material, and other resources) from donors, funders, business enterprises, and philanthropists.

According to the SA NGOs, the Series of activities are media engagements, colloquium where series of educational discussions in form of paper presentations and panel discussions on matters needing the attention of all and sundry, and the presentation of awards of excellence to deserving individuals, corporate organizations, and networks of NGOs.

“Others are online activities using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp to discuss progress, challenges, opportunities, including ways forward that have been ongoing,” she added.

Hajia Yardada reiterated the commitment of Governor Ganduje to keep on partnering with the CSO community, adding that he is happy and satisfied with the kind of support being provided to the state to complement its plans, programs, policies, and projects.

“His Excellency finds it imperative to reciprocate this kind gesture by engaging and involving CSOs/NGOs, International Organizations, and donors including corporate organizations and philanthropists in all that the state does to address the yearning needs of its populace on one hand, and on the other sustaining and replicating the good initiative you introduced.

“The current approach of developing and seeing the smooth implementation of the Kano Mutual Accountability Framework (KanMAF) introduced by FCDO is a typical example of his Excellency’s passion and determination partner with other stakeholders to make Kano a safe and secured state where developmental projects and programs can be introduced and sustained.

“I would like to express the gratitude of his Excellency and his office for all the sacrifices and interventions being made by the CSO coalitions, individual NGOs, relevant MDAs, Development Partners, and other stakeholders in our collective efforts to ensure sustainable development of the state and that of its citizens,” she said.

The SA NGOs also commended Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) for supporting her Office and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of 2022 World NGO Day in Kano.

Every year, on February 27, World NGO Day is observed in several parts of the globe. The day commemorates social advocates and workers who have gone out of their way to make the world a better place.

The world NGO day began in Finland where European Union, United Nations, and many other international organizations championed the idea and was endorsed like many other special days.
