Jigawa: JIMAF Urges Gov’t to Strengthen Public Healthcare Service

Jigawa Maternal and Accountability Forum (JIMAF) has called on the Jigawa state government to strengthen the public healthcare service delivery being a critical sector for achieving its policy on poverty eradication, social and economic development in the state.

The Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Baffa Nayaya made the call in an interview with newsmen during a three-day workshop organized for the members of the group on a modern technique of Advocacy Strategy held at Baballe Hotel in Kano state.

He said, there is a popular saying that “A healthy society is a wealthy society ” therefore by strengthening the public healthcare service delivery, Jigawa people will be more productive, active and also reduce unnecessary spending on medications.

According to him, maternal, child health particularly with regards to reproductive health is one of the key areas the government is expected to give more additional priorities to reduce the high rate of maternal/child death in the state.

Comrade Baffa explained that the government is also needed to increase its budgetary allocation and also ensure timely releases for the purchase and distribution of family planning commodities in the state to support child spacing for the safety of mothers and children surviving in the state.

He, however, commended the state government for its commitments toward, the social, economic, health, and wellbeing development of the citizens which have been yielding fruitful results.

While making his remarks, Dr. Micheal Olawuyi who is the National Sustainability Lead of Women Integrated service for Health (WISH) program said, the workshop aimed at building the capacity of JIMAF members on new techniques of advocacy.

Dr. Olawuyi said, WISH funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), a department of the Government of the United Kingdom will continue to partner and train JIMAF members to advocate for the Jigawa government to continue investment in family spacing as it is very important in reducing poverty and maternal death.
