The prevalence cases of HIV/Aids in Jigawa state has dropped down from 1.9 to 0.3% representing over 80% reduction in the last two years.
The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi revealed this while speaking at the commemoration of 2020 World Aids Day held in Dutse.
Mallam Umar Namadi who was represented by the Director Admin and Finance, office of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abba Mustapha explained that the statistics was obtained from 2018 NHIIS report.
He pointed out the number of HIV fatalities have gone down as well as number of new infections cases are reducing everyday according to the reports flow from health facilities across the state.
According to him, the report is a clear manifestation on how state government policies, multi institutional, multi faceted approaches is yielding fruitful result in fight against the spread of the dreadful disease in the state
The Deputy Governor therefore congratulated the policy makers, service providers, State Action Against Aids (SACA) management and all relevant stakeholders for their commitment to make Jigawa Aids Free which is very realistic according to available data.
In his speech, Project Manager, SACA Dr Ibrahim Dan Almajiri said, Jigawa was a pioneer state to enact law for mandatory test before marriage which many states are now adopting.
According to him, the state government also release funds to the agency for the procurement of HIV testing kits, reagents and provision of monthly over head regularly.
Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Almajiri commended the stakeholders for thier continued support to the fight against HIV and AIDS especially in the midst of COVID 19 pandemic.
