Jigawa Governor Reassures Determination to Promote Agriculture for Food Security

Jigawa State government has assured its determination to promote agriculture for improved food security in the state and the county in general.

Governor Umar Namadi who received the delegation from the African Development Bank at the Government House in Dutse appreciates the efforts of the federal government for initiating various agricultural intervention programs since the inception of his administration.

He said: “Jigawa state government will continue to support the development of agriculture to improve the wellbeing of the people in the state.”

Governor Namadi further stated that the only way to move people out of poverty is through the development of agriculture thereby affirming that the Jigawa state government is hoping to cover about 150,000 hectares of land in the areas of wheat farming next year with an emphasis on expanding the program to other crops for the betterment of citizens.

He commended the initiative of feeding the African initiative established by the African Development Bank, assuring that the government will monitor all the inputs and interventions to ensure adequate use for the attainment of greater Jigawa.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Dr Martins Fregnen said the visit is aimed at intimating the governor on the activities of the bank to agree on the areas of continued collaboration.

He says the National agricultural development scheme will be supported in the Areas of Irrigated land, demonstration to the farmers, Financing, and providing opportunities for the young people for the development of the region.

Other key stakeholders appreciate the support and commitments of the Jigawa state government and assured willingness to maintain the cordial relationship between the two parties.

It could be recalled that Jigawa state was allocated forty thousand hectares of land for wheat farming under the initiative to enhance food security in Nigeria where over 10,000 farmers are supported with agricultural inputs for effective farming.
