Jigawa Celebrates 8-year Polio Free

Jigawa state government has yesterday celebrated 8 years with out recording single case of wild polio virus in the state.

Addressing newsmen in his office as part of the celebration of world polio day, the executive secretary state Primary Healthcare Board Dr Kabiru Ibrahim said, the state finds it worthy to celebrate the day.

He explained that, the state has been fighting the virus in the last 20 to 30 years, and it succeeded in eradicate the virus after over coming huge challenges.

“Even though today we are celebrating eight years without the virus but it is not yet Uhuru (The fight is not yet over) we are going to use the occasions for sober reflection and re-strategize in our fight against the virus”

“We are using this occasion to thanks all the stakeholders in the fight against the scourge of polio virus in the state and also request on them to not relent their support until the desire goals is achieved”

“We will continue with polio immunization and following other measures in the campaign against the polio virus until we build strong immunity to our society against any possible resurface of the virus”.

Dr Kabiru added that, the state is currently conducting 2020 second round of polio immunization campaign and targeted to immunize 1.7 million children in the state.

The executive secretary maintained that, the state is expected to achieve 98-99% coverage as the era of polio immunization rejection was history of the past in the state, while storage facilities, manpower and other logistics are adequately on the ground.
