INEC Releases Sensitive Materials for Bye-Election in Jigawa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has released sensitive election materials for the conduct of bye election for the seat of Member Representing Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa state.

While briefing newsmen shortly before releasing the materials, the INEC National Commissioner, Barrister Festus Okoye said, 10 political parities including ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and main opposition party, People Democratic Party (PDP) are participating in the bye election.

Barrister Festus explained that INEC has concluded all necessary arrangement for the conduct of the election schedule to hold on 19th June, 2021.

He said, a total of 1,111 election officials and 854 security personal deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.

According to him the election will be conducted in accordance to the existing polling units while the newly created polling units will not be considered for the purpose of the bye-election.

“We appealed to the political parties to have faith on the democratic tenets, the choice made by peoples through their voters’ card must be the only basis for determining the winner of the election.”

INEC also charged all election officials to display highest sense of professionalism and ethical conduct throughout the duration of the exercise.

The bye election followed the death of member representing the constituency, Hon Hassan Yuguda Kila on 14th March 2021 and the speaker House of Representative declared the seat vacant.
