Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reacted to the call on him by acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to join the ruling party.

Ganduje, who finally succumbed to the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday, pleaded with Governor Yusuf and members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to reunite with him in APC.

He made the appeal on Thursday at the end of the APC stakeholders meeting in Kano, where he subsequently reaffirmed acceptance of the Supreme Court verdict that affirmed Governor Yusuf’s victory.

Although Ganduje did not specifically mention the spiritual leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and his erstwhile godfather, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the APC leader said, ‘ Our doors are opened to accommodate all members of the opposition parties to join the ruling APC”.

Even though the specific directive of President Tinubu was for Ganduje to reach out to the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Kwankwaso, for the purpose of reconciling their political differences that lingered in the last eight years, The Guardian gathered.

However, Director General, Media and Publicity, Kano State Government House, Sanusi Bature, insisted Governor Yusuf has no plan to dump his NNPP party for any option elsewhere.

The Governor’s spokesperson hinted that like every other person, the governor got to hear Ganduje’s appeal on the pages of social media, adding that the government has not yet determined what exactly the intention of the APC leader.

Sanusi said, ” Well, like every other person in Kano, the Governor had Ganduje making calls on social media. We believe as a former Governor, he should know the right channel of communication, if he truly wanted to pass information across to the Governor.

” And as for whether the Governor will join APC, I can confirm to you that my boss has no intention to leave his party the NNPP for any other party. Let me repeat, the Governor has no interest to join any party because he’s satisfied with the NNPP”. Sanusi noted.

Ganduje had told the forum that APC is making frantic move to ensure Kano remains a one party state with largest and formidable members that will determine the future of political dimension in Nigeria

” To build a solid and formidable party with a followers APC must open is doors widely to accept members from the oppositions. APC is working to build a one party state and that is why we are inviting the Governor of Kano and all the supporters of NNPP to join APC”. Ganduje noted.

Earlier in their separate speech, the deputy Senate President, Jibril I. Barau and former leader of house of representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, explained that the party has resolved to accept the directive of President Tinubu to reconcile with opposition parties in Kano.
