The Hospitals Management Board (HMB) has applauded the Managing Director of Kano State Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and also the acting Managing Director, Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Dr Baffa Babba Dan Agundi for donating beds, mattresses and bed sheets to Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital.

The DG, HMB, Dr. Nasiru Alhassan Kabo made the commendation in a press release issued from the Public Relations Unit of the Board and made available to media outfits.

Dr. Kabo said that Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi is a friend to the state health sector since coming on board, recalling that in 2019 he has cleared Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital roadside off congestion of petty trades and illegitimate parking of commercial vehicles in order to maintain a favorable environment for both workers and patients.

He also said that the donation by the KAROTA/CPC boss is timely in view of the influx of patients to the hospital for one psychiatric issue or the other from the state and beyond.

Dr. Kabo assured him and the people of the state of judicious utilization of the items, charging the management of the facility to make proper use of the donation as Board will keep its eyes open to see that the aim of the intervention is realized.

“Health system is enormously vast so much that government singlehandedly cannot shoulder all its responsibilities. Its equipment is so expensive and the government is doing its best to equip the hospitals despite limited resources.

“So, there is a need for well to mean individuals to be supporting public hospitals. This will unarguably go a long in improving service delivery in our facilities”, said the DG.

He then commended Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for paying maximum attention to the healthcare system of the state, appreciating the sterling commitment of Khadimul Lafiya to see that the state health sector attains maximum improvement.

On his part, the In charge of the hospital, Dr. Usman Muhammad Minjibir expressed his utmost gladness for the donation, delightedly averring that “Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi has donated 30 beds, 30 mattresses, and 30-bed sheets to the facility. We accept the donation with all gladness.”

He maintained that the items will be mounted in the main ward of the facility in order to accommodate more psychiatric patients, pointing out that this will inevitably enhance service delivery in the facility.

“Dawanau Psychiatric Hospital is the largest facility, not only in Kano but also in other neighboring states, that treats psychiatric complications. There is a need for people, especially the wealthy ones, to come and see where they can intervene.

“People with psychiatric problems need assistance the most because many of them can’t work and does other handcraft activities to cater for themselves”, Dr. Minjibir appealed.
