The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General AE Abubakar, has commended members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) for keeping the home front safe and ensuring the well-being of siblings of army personnel while their husbands are on national assignment.

He made the commendation on Thursday when he received on a courtesy visit the Chairperson of NAOWA, Mrs. Fibishola Abubakar, and her entourage on Thursday, at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

The GOC/Commander OPSH noted that NAOWA, apart from maintaining the home front, has also taken active part in the non-kinetic activities of the military by providing immediate succor to communities affected by negative vices or those in dire need. He further commended NAOWA for its skill acquisition programs and support for the Nigerian Army in ensuring quality and affordable health and educational facilities for barracks and host communities. “The best way to keep our dependents away from negative vices is to engage them in meaningful ventures,” the GOC averred.

Appreciating the sacrifices offered by the officers’ wives, the GOC pledged to work with NAOWA to prioritize the welfare of troops in 3 Division. This, he noted, was in consonance with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy to ensure that a premium was placed on the welfare of personnel and their families.

Speaking earlier, the Chairperson of NAOWA 3 Division Chapter, Mrs. Fibishola Abubakar, commended the GOC/Commander OPSH for his leadership style of prioritizing the welfare of troops and their family members. She revealed that her leadership of NAOWA in 3 Division would focus on developing the skills of the dependents of personnel for improved income and a better family life.

The Chairperson also unveiled her projections to upgrade the NAOWA Skills Acquisition Center as well as improve learning facilities in the schools while also creating recreational centers for personnel families in 3 Division.

She noted that the mission would only be achievable with the cooperation and support of the Division.
