The Country Director, British Council, Lucy Pearson, predicted that, the partnership between Kano state and the Council appears exciting.

She made the statement when she paid a courtesy visit to governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at his office, Tuesday, adding that, “We and the government and the people of Kano state have enjoyed a long history of interactions and profound friendship and relationship that is deep and firm in Education, Culture and Society…”

“The future for us at the British Council is quite exciting. We plan to continue our work in supporting community led projects through sports, supporting systems and processes in the education sector across the primary, secondary and higher education levels,” she stated.

Adding that, they would continue with the capacity building initiatives for teachers through “…our Connecting Classrooms Program where teachers are trained on 21st century skills and continue our investments in the creative sector, enhancing skills.”

Ganduje’s spokesman, Abba Anwar in a statement said to further shed light on what the future holds in the partnership, the country director said: “Your Excellency, on behalf of British Council Nigeria, I would like to thank you and the good people of Kano for warmly welcoming us to Kano.

“I look forward to more opportunities to visit Kano in the very near future and to continue our long history of valuable interactions.”

The Regional Coordinator, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Kano Office, Nafisa Ado, commended Kano state for its intention to strengthen free and compulsory education policy by directing the redevelopment of 5,000 civil servants with requisite qualification in education to classroom to teach.

Adding that this can be seen in the commitment to give the integrated civil servants a two weeks induction before deployment to schools and an additional one-week refresher training every term.
