The French media reported that, within hours of the United Kingdom’s approval of the migrant deportation measure, at least five people had perished while trying to cross the English Channel.
The bodies were found near the Wimereaux beach in northern France on Tuesday, according to the Voix du Nord newspaper. The local newspaper reports that boats and helicopters have been sent in for the continuing rescue attempt.
After being saved, some 100 migrants were transferred to a French navy vessel. The report stated that they will be transported to the port of Boulogne.
This occurred just a few hours after Parliament ultimately approved British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s most recent attempt to transfer some migrants to Rwanda on a one-way ticket. Human rights organizations have deemed the law to be cruel.
The government of the United Kingdom intends to deport a portion of individuals who enter the nation illegally in order to discourage migrants from risking their lives in shoddy inflatable boats with the intention of obtaining asylum upon arrival in Britain.
