Fed Government Designates GH Yelwa as Snakebite Center

The Federal Ministry of Health has approved the inclusion of General Hospital Yauri among snakes bites designated centres in the Nigeria.

This followed a formal request addressed to the Minister by the Honourable Member Representing Ngaski, Shanga and Yauri Federal Constituency of Kebbi state, Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu.

The designated approval was conveyed in a letter addressed to Hon Tanko Sununu dated 15th December, 2020 with reference FMOH/DSP/159/1/37 and signed by the honourable Minister.

The honourable member disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto in an interview over the week.

He said the federal ministry of health would soon commenced training of a Doctor, Nurse and Pharmacist from the hospital with a view to increase their capacity to handle victims of snake bites.

Dr Sununu further said the hospital will also start receiving Anti – snake venom from the Federal Ministry of health.

Recently, the rate of snake bites in the area has been on the rise especially following last year’s floods that led to infestation of the area by reptiles.

In an effort to assist members of the constituency, the Honourable member has procured doses of Anti- snake venom for free distribution to victims of snake bites in the three Local Governments of the Emirate.

He further pledged to continue to execute meaningful projects that would improve the lives of the less privilege
