After Dayana Yastremska, the opponent of the British player Emma Raducanu, quit due to sickness in the first set at Indian Wells, the player advances to round three.

In the first set, Raducanu, 21, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in just eighteen minutes.

Between games, Yastremska, a Ukrainian, went to the back of the court, held her stomach, and eventually left the match when the doctors examined her.

In the third round, Raducanu will take on either Peyton Stearns or Aryna Sabalenka.

When asked about Yastremska’s condition, Raducanu responded, “To be honest, I had no idea. It startled me since all I was trying to do was concentrate as much as I could on my side of the court, and I did a good job of it right away.

“I feel horrible for Dayana because she’s been through a lot, and I detest watching people get hurt. I played quite clean for four games. I feel so sorry for her. I know firsthand how horrible it is to experience both sickness and injury; it’s the worst thing that can happen to an athlete.”

Unknown symbol Raducanu used a deft drop shot to break Yastremska’s serve in the first game, and she dug in to save a break point in her next service game.

The second break was sealed with a powerful backhand, and in the fourth game Raducanu held comfortably.

For their lone other meeting, in 2022 at Portoroz, Slovenia, Yastremska also had to quit due to an injury.
It is the first time Raducanu has registered successive victories since she won three in a row to reach the fourth round at Indian Wells in March 2023.
