Emir of Dutse Calls for Reformation of University Curriculum

The Chancellor of the Sokoto State University and Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi has called for the removal of irrelevant courses from  national university curriculum.

The Monarch made the call at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd convocation of Sokoto state University in Sokoto 

 He said, the current curriculum was full of irrelevant and repetitious subjects that neither allows students to relate to their environment nor allow them to follow their instincts.

According to him, students deserve to have a curriculum that would encourage them not only on discovery and problem solving but also relevant and responsive to their needs.

“It must incorporate universal values such as honesty, respect for others and the law, tolerance, fairness, caring as well as social responsibility ” he said

The traditional further explained that institutional gap between the north and south was not excusable.

“Our region embraces western secular education only in the 20th century, the institutional gap between the North and the South is not only distressing but also not excusable,” said the Monarch.

The monarch underscored the important of education to human survival and development

This he said was to ensure that, their staff were equipped with the required skills to excel in this highly competitive 21st century.

However, out of the 1,473 that graduated from the University 36 bagged first class, 529 Second class upper and 894 bagged Second Class lower.

Professor Dangoggo who is the vice chancellor of the University said all the 23 courses undertaken in the university have received full accreditation of the National University Commission (NUC).
