The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Sokoto has in its clampdown on Petroleum marketers selling above government approved pump price of 162 naira per litre sealed 3 petrol stations for contravening the order.

Speaking to newsmen, the Controller, DPR Sokoto field office, Alhaji Musa Zarumi Tambuwal said the DPR has in its routine inspection visited 52 petrol stations in Sokoto metropolis aimed at ensuring total compliance with the government directives on the 162 naira per liter pump price.

He said during the inspection of the 52 PMS retail outlets in Sokoto metropolis, only 12 petrol stations were found to be in total compliance while 3 were found selling above the approved 162 naira per litre and were immediately sealed and sanctioned.

The Controller further warned that, the routine operation will be a continuous exercise until all petroleum marketers in the state revert to the government approved price of 162 naira per litre.

Zarumi however remarked that there is no justification whatsoever for any marketer to sale PMS above 162 naira per litre, hence the federal government has not increased the pump price of the commodity.

According to him, some agents of doom were using speculations and rumours on the planned increase in pump price by the federal government with a view to   create confusion and panicking among motorists to pave ways for marketers to skyrocket the price of the product.

He said any marketer found hoarding the product and refused sale to the public would be compelled to do so by the regulatory agency or even sanctioned.

“The DPR is up and doing to ensure that motorists and other end users of petroleum product were not short-changed by marketers at the point of delivery.” the controller stated.

He also warned retailers of liquefied Petroleum Gas also known as cooking gas to desist from the share and sale of the commodity, adding that, the refilling of Gas cylinders should only be done at LPG plants.

According to him, any LPG retail outlet found refilling used cylinders from customers would be sanctioned and finalized.

He advised LPG Marketers and retailers to be extra careful while handling the commodity, adding that they should operate within the rules and regulations governing the marketing of commodity.
