Cry Beloved Nigeria!

Ahmed Yahaya – Joe

“Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.” – Frantz Fanon

It all started with millions of out of school children. Then came underaged voting. Now even those in schools are not safe.

Wrecked by insecurity, in virtually all indices of human development Arewa is lagging behind. The appalling statistics speak volumes.

The North is bleeding; but who will save us from ourselves?

The ongoing Imota Rice Mill project in Lagos is scheduled for completion later this year.  When commissioned it is envisaged to roll-out 2.4 million 50 kg bags of rice per annum.

With an estimated 250,000 direct and indirect jobs at stake nationwide, the rice raw material will not drop from the Moon – but come from the North. The Lagos and Kebbi state governments have already test run “Lake Rice” – Lagos Kebbi

In 2023, I am therefore looking for an authentic leader that will make the entire nation a holistic constituency.

Will a Southern president embark on a “revenge mission” or “return match” of sorts of what is currently playing out? It is very likely. Perhaps why the North is strenuously attempting to still hold on to power in 2023.

The call for Restructuring scares me. I prefer good governance. I have friends in South Sudan and I have been following events in Ethiopia.

Currently, unemployment has attained 33.3%, while underemployment has reduced, putting them together is a whopping 56.1%.

Meanwhile, inflation is at 17.3% with food inflation specifically at 21.79% – the highest since 2009!

To paraphrase a onetime US president in 1910, Woodrow Wilson;

(When will men stop their questionings and recognize a leader when he rises? When will they say, “We no longer question; we believe you; lead on, for we are behind you.”

Nigeria needs men of that sort.

You are your own saviours, and when you have come to the determination to save yourselves, you will know your leader the moment you meet him, for you will know if he is your sort and of your purpose).

If the North goes down the whole of Nigeria would fall too. And vice versa.

We therefore need a leader that would build enduring bridges mutual trust and understanding between Nigerians.

We need somebody that can see the big picture and properly manage our diversity.

For goodness sake who is that person?

But there must first of all be an all-encompassing elite consensus between the North and South for the overall sustainable growth and development of Nigeria.

The mistake of 2015 was a mere power sharing agreement. We have now outgrown that kind of narrow-minded nonsense. A bigger picture is now at stake!
