In line with the global COVID-19 vaccination exercise, as flagged-off by President Muhammadu Buhari in the country, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state will flag-off the exercise in Kano, today, Thursday, at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.

The governor will be vaccinated alongside some selected frontline health workers, to comply with the global best practice and protocols of the exercise. Which is aimed at taming the global pandemic.

After fulfilling some conditions for receiving COVID-19 Vaccine and effort in the fight against the pandemic, Kano state is enlisted amongst the states that received the Vaccine at early stage of distribution.

Barely two days ago, the state Commissioner of Health, Dr Ibrahim Aminu Tsanyawa received the first batch of the Vaccine through Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, on behalf of the Governor.

He received 209,520 doses of the Vaccine on behalf of the Governor for the state.

In another development, Governor Ganduje reveals that Kano targets 70 percent of the state population for the Vaccination, as phases of the exercise go by.

He made the revelation last night, Wednesday, at Africa House, Government House, Kano, during sensitisation/stakeholders meeting with members of the academia and students’ leaders in the state.

“We know you are very effective and efficient vehicles in disseminating our message to members of your academic communities and the society in general,” he said.

Adding that “Our target is to get 70 percent of our population to get vaccinated. We have no time to sleep. We have no time to waste. That is why we are elected, anyway. We are not doing any favour to anybody.”

Governor Ganduje earlier in his remarks at the meeting, praised President Buhari for securing the Vaccine from abroad.

“We are inviting you for this meeting because we take you so dear to our heart. It is not only you that we are meeting for the same purpose. We have started with the security agencies, followed by health professionals and we had similar meeting with traditional leaders and religious leaders.

Just before you came in, we had similar meeting with local government chairmen and leaders of transporters and leaders of our markets. The meeting will be held with many categories of the society,” he disclosed.
