Continental Free Trade: Jigawa Moves to Enhance Domestic Investment

In a move to leverage from the opportunity created by African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AFCFTA) signed by Nigeria, Jigawa state has organized a stakeholder meeting for enhancing local investment.

Speaking at the occasions, the state deputy Governor Malam Umar Namafi Sambo, said: “the state government is ever ready to provide all necessary incentive and support for any investors to actualize his dream in the state.”

He added that, Jigawa being one of the border states with comparative advantage on agriculture, mining, commerce and industry there is an utmost need for the state to woo more investors to meet market expansion.

He explained that the state has been ranked second by the World Bank’s ease of doing business in 2018.

Mallam Namadi then urged economic stakeholders to key into opportunities that are available in the state.  

In her speech, the Director General of Jigawa- Invest, Hajiya Furera Ismaila Jumare said, the meeting was organized to discuss on modalities initiated to enhance the visibility of Jigawa state among key viable investment location in the country.

“The meeting which was organized by the Jigawa-Invest aims at attracting more private sector investment into the state especially medium and small-scale sector.

“To discuss the framework of developing competitive regulatory environment, including Infrastructure and services that will support private sector investment in the state.”

She however revealed that, Jigawa-Invest is currently developing a detailed Information and Data base on Jigawa economy including investment opportunities, therein to support investors with key information.

Many of the participants have urged the state government and Jigawa- Invest to do more in creating public awareness and enlightenment on the available investment opportunities in the state as well as technique of modern business.
