Ahead of the forthcoming ward congress, Borno’s ruling Party, All Progressive Congress, (APC) adopted a consensus arrangement.

The decision was taken during the party’s critical stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

The acting state chairman of the party, Ali Bukar Dalori coordinated the meeting, where he assured to provide a level playing ground at which all prospective contestants would be given an opportunity.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, moved a motion for the adoption of consensus for the ward congresses and was seconded by a former member of the house of representatives, Abdu Musa. The motion later, put to a voice-vote and unanimously adopted.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who is leader of the party, called for strict adherence to APC’s rules and regulations guiding conduct of congresses.

Zulum cautioned party members to avoid acts capable of threatening the unity of the party.

The Governor expressed concern on how noncompliance with party’s rules and regulations in some states led to litigations that affected its chances in the previous general elections.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, former Governors Maina Ma’aji Lawan and Kashim Shettima, Senators representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume and that of Northern Borno, Abubakar Kyari.

Others include former Deputy Governors, all 10 serving members of house of representatives, members of the state house of assembly, members of the state executive council, chairmen of the 27 local government council as well as former members of the state and national assembly, party executives and other critical stakeholders.
