Commissioner Urges Citizens Group to be Active Education Watchdogs in Kano

Kano State Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Sanusi Sa’id has urged the Members of Partnership for Education to be active watchdogs in the affairs of Education in the state.

He made the call on Tuesday while inaugurating the Partnership at Gidan Murtala.

Spokesperson of the Ministry, Aliyu Yusuf in a statement said the commissioner described the willingness of the citizens to be part of the partnership as an answer to a clarion call by the state government for active community participation.

He expressed the need for the partnership to be vigilant thereby coming up with constructive criticism and viable solutions for the betterment of the sector.

While thanking the group for the sense of patriotism they displayed, he further urged them to remain steadfast in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The Commissioner therefore, disclosed that his office has been on a track in bringing about meaningful transformation and radical changes in the state’s education sector.

In his remark, the Chairman of the Partnership, Dr. Kabiru Shehu assured the determination of the members to work selflessly so as to achieve the desired objectives.

Dr. Shehu who is also the Special Adviser to the state governor on Free and Compulsory Basic and Post Basic Education, appealed to the Commissioner to work towards reviving the tenet of respecting seniority in the scheme of work in the Ministry.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso described the idea for the establishment of Citizens Group as good omen to the state education sector, urging the members to be up and doing.

In their separate remarks, the representative of Hajia Nafisa Ado, Kano Regional Coordinator – Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Malam Auwal Hamza and the CEO of Adolescent Health and Information Project (AHIP), Hajiya Mairo Bello expressed their determination in ensuring the success of the partnership, calling on the Ministry to give them the needed support and cooperation.

According to the statement, membership of the partnership will be chaired by Dr. Kabiru Shehu while Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Dr Bello Shehu, Dr. Halima Rabi’u Abdullahi, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Abdullahi and Dr. Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad are to serve as members.

Other members include Munzali Mustapha, Gwani Yahuza Gwani Danzarga, Hajiya Amina Umar, Sadiya Zakari, Maimuna Abba, Hajiya Hauwa Isma’il and Suwaiba Akilu Mustapha.

Also, as members are Mairiga Danjani, Mariya Waziri, Hadiza S. Baki, Dahiru Adamu Yadakwari, Hajiya Mairo Bello, Tijjani Haladu Baraya, Hajiya Rakiya Ladi Musa, Safiyanu Lawal Bichi, Nafisa Murtala Ahmad, Prof. Aisha Abdul Isma’il, Habib Saleh while Sale Abdu will serve as a Secretary respectively.
