The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education, CHRICED, extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kole Shettima of the MacArthur Foundation, who turns 62 Saturday, and to his amiable colleague, Dr. Amina Salihu, who turns 52.

This was contained in a statement, Saturday, by the Executive Director, CHRICED, Comrade Dr. Ibrahim M. Zikirullahi and made available to Stallion Times.

According to the statement, on this auspicious day, the CHRICED Board of Directors and Secretariat are overjoyed and grateful to the Almighty Creator for the lives of these two great Nigerians. We express our gratitude to God for blessing Nigeria, and indeed the entire world, with such a selfless, resilient, courageous, and dedicated duo.

“CHRICED honors Kole Shettima and Amina Salihu, two dear and dedicated friends whose unwavering commitment to human rights and accountable governance has helped put Nigeria on the path toward becoming a nation where peace and justice reign.

“We, likewise, extols the duo’s commitment to inclusion and participation for all, regardless of gender, religious affiliation, or origin. CHRICED expressly declares that for Nigeria to overcome its current existential crisis, it requires men and women who exemplify the characteristics that today’s celebrants have consistently demonstrated over the years.

“Our country is in desperate need of visionary and selfless individuals like Kole Shettima and Amina Salihu. Their commitment and energy to work tirelessly for human rights, the rule of law, and accountable governance distinguish them.

“As Nigeria attempts to recover from the brink, it requires the service and leadership of additional men and women like Shettima and Salihu. It’s also worth noting that the duo’s calm and steady demeanor has been a tremendous source of support and inspiration for Nigeria’s civic space.

“As the two amiable Comrades mark another year of selfless and dedicated service to God, the nation, and humanity, CHRICED reflects on the impact they have had on civil society in terms of re-energizing and motivating the sector to play a more active role in holding governments accountable at all levels.

“Thus, in celebrating the duo, we honor their unwavering commitment to social justice, inclusion, and the promotion of all Nigerians’ fundamental human rights. Indeed, Drs. Kole and Amina have been dependable and trustworthy allies of Nigeria’s civil society.
