Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu says the people of Nigeria and Republic Benin will continue to remain as brothers inspite of artificial boundary created by colonialists in Africa.
Senator Abubakar Atiku made the emphasis in a message to the opening of a technical session on boundary resolution between Nigeria and Benin Republic host by the state government at Presidential Lodge, Birnin Kebbi.
Represented by the Chief of Staff Government House, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, the Governor acknowledged that African Brotherliness between the nations encompassing tradition, culture, religion, commerce and social interaction has continued to flourish with actual benefits to the people of both countries.
In a press statement made available to newsmen by the Director Press, Mal Abubakar Dakin Gari, the Governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari and his counterpart of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon for facilitating the spirit of cordiality through the construction of a bridge over River Warah near Tsamiya to consolidate unity and social interaction between the two nations.
In a remark, according to the statement, the Director General National Boundarya Commission, Surveyor Adamu Adaji told the gathering that all areas of strengthening relations have been amicably resolved saying construction of the bridge by both countries will serve as the pillar of peace and economic growth between them.
Similarly, the representative of the Director General of Benin Border Commission, Adamu Yusuf described the bridge as a bridge of fraternity, brotherhood and friendship between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
Among those who attended the technical session, were the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar Yauri, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Hassan Muhammad Shallah, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Land and Housing, Alhaji Malami Shekare, the State Surveyor General Kabir Ibrahim Argungu, the Sarkin Kudun Illo, Alhaji Muhammadu Dobi and Chairman of Bagudo Local Government, Alhaji Muhammadu Kaura Dan Hakimi Zagga.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting, a Member of House of Representatives, from Bagudo Federal Constituency Hon. Bello Ka’oje Dallatun Bargu said the National Assembly initiated the construction of the bridge over River Warah to foster peace and understanding, as well as social and economic interaction for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
Among personalities in the Federal Government delegation are representatives from Foreign Affairs, Nigeria Immigration Service, National Boundary Commission, National Assembly, Desk Officer Nigeria/Benin, Border Community Development Agency and officials of Trans-border Cooperation.
