Amid All Progressives Congress (APC) registration/revalidation exercise, governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state urged that, “I want see more women registered in the current registration exercise, than men, so that we can promote women participation in democracy.”

He made the call during the State Executive Council meeting, held at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Wednesday, encouraging that, “Women participate more during election period than men. So, we need to encourage them get registered.”

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar in a statement said Governor Ganduje directed all political appointees and other APC members, to make sure that, they go with their families, to registration centres and called on all the Commissioners and other members of the State Executive Council to do same.

He emphasized that, with more women in politics, the system of democracy would be more supportive towards the development of the society, “…as such we must use this exercise, to show to others that, in Kano, women are significant portion of our democratic culture.”

On use facemask, he reveals that very soon government would redeploy COVID-19 Marshals, to, with the aid of the security agencies, make the use of facemask as effective as it should be.

“Preparations are in top gear to see that people use facemask as advised by health workers. While offenders will be punished. We are going to use our Mobile Courts for that purpose,” he added.

The governor also puts his weight behind the closure of one private health facility, UMC Hospital, located around Afforestation area, off Gwarzo road, Rijiyar Zaki, general area.

We are therefore calling on all private hospitals to stop treating COVID-19 patients. We have specific Isolation Centres set aside purposely for that. All health facilities must abide by the protocols of this pandemic, he said.
