The All Progressives Congress (APC) Media Group has commended Jigawa state commitments to improve Universal Basic Education in the state.

The team leader of the group, Dr. Tom Ohikere made the commendation during a courtesy visit they paid to the state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi.

Dr. Tom stated that, the team was in the state as part of their nationwide tour for assessing the progress made for improving Universal Basic Education in all APC controlled states.

He said the aim of the assessment tour is to compile the progress made to encourage learning from each other’s success, and also create an avenue for award presentation to the most outstanding performance for a healthy competition.

“The exercise will authenticate the relentless effort of the APC-led administration in making quality education available and affordable for every child across the country through the UBE/SUBEC /interventions.

“It is sad to note that nearly 13.5 million children in Nigeria are out-of-school, so all hands must be on deck to reduce this baffling number to the barest minimum,” he added.

According to him, provision of accessible and qualitative Basic Education is the foundation for higher education and establishment of driving forces for social and economic development in any society.

“Basic education afforded child with ability to read and write, which make it easily for him to receive artisan training or further his education that can enable him to be productive, self-reliant and potential member of the society,” he said.

Dr. Tom also described the progress recorded in Jigawa state Basic Education as a clear manifestation of judicial use of federal and state intervention in the sector.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Namadi thanked the team for the visit and its plans to publicize the achievements made in Basic Education sector with view to create healthy competition.
